STATE OF MAINE has issued the following Governor’s Executive Order: An Order Suspending Enforcement of Provisions of Certain Licensing Statutes and Rules in Order to Facilitate Health Care and Veterinary Care During the State of Emergency Created by Covid-19. 

Governor Janet Mills has signed an Executive Order today which takes additional actions to promote Maine people’s access to health care in response to COVID-19.  This Order was developed in coordination with the Department of Professional and Financial Regulationthe Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation and the Attorney General’s Office.  ThExecutive Order makes temporary changes to certain OPOR licensing laws, which remain in effect until the end of the state of civil emergency

 

A Message from Bob Howe on 04/30/2020: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
 
The Maine Department of Labor begins accepting applications for the new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) at 8 a.m. Friday, May 1.
People whose claim does not require further review should begin receiving benefits within seven days of filing.
This new federal program expands eligibility for unemployment benefits to certain categories of workers not typically able to receive unemployment in the past, such as:
  • Self-employed workers 
  • Farmers/Fishermen 
  • Independent contractors 
  • Nonprofit employees not already covered by regular state unemployment benefits 
  • Gig economy workers 
  • Workers who do not have enough work history and earnings to be eligible for traditional unemployment benefits 
  • Others who have been determined ineligible for regular unemployment benefits
